The third Season of Diablo 4 began on January 23rd. This article introduces the strengths of the Necromancer class and provides strategies for playing in season 3.

Necromancer's Various Playstyle

Necromancer gets a new Bone Spirit playstyle in season 3. However, other playstyles, Blood Surge, Blood Lance, and the Corpse Explosion, have been weakened compared to season 2. In contrast, Summoning was minimally affected. These changes will not impact the Necromancer's performance in the progression phase. Based on the available information, the strength ranking of Necromancers in the mid to late game would be:

T1: Bone Spirit, Corpse Explosion, Mixed Blood Lance
T2: Blood Surge, Blood Lance, Bone Spear, Mendeln;
T3: Summoning

Bone Spirit is a new kind of playstyle. The following section will describe its build idea briefly. Corpse Explosion has been existing in season 2. Despite the nerf, as long as Ring of the Sacrilegious Soul remains, this playstyle is the most laid-back playstyle for late-game Necromancer. Mixed Bone Spear is a variation of the traditional Bone Spear that incorporates Bone Spirit. The rest of the playstyle remains unchanged from Season Two.

Adjustments in Bone Spirit

Early Stage

The Bone Spirit playstyle is a new system that requires more Unique Items and legendary Aspects. The adjustments to Bone Spirit in Season 3 mainly affect Legendary Aspects. In the early stage of progression, Bone Spirit skills can strengthen damage and mana recovery in the Bone Spear playstyle. To cast this skill, all you need is Ossified Essence. You can use Bone Spirit to restore magic power after Bone Spear has consumed mana or utilize Aspect of Swelling Curse to increase damage.

Mid to Late Stage

After obtaining the necessary Legendary Aspects, the playstyle of Bone Spirit will change. One option is pure Bone Spirit, where you can reduce the cooldown appropriately and pair it with the enhanced branch of Bone Spirit to release it once every one to two seconds.
The other option is the Bone Spirit mixed with Bone Splinters playstyle, which may be available in Season 3 with the adjustments of Legendary Aspects. The Unique Items can enhance our fundamental skills, while the Legendary Aspects of Bone Spirit can unleash a multitude of Bone Splinters simultaneously. By ensuring that these Bone Splinters hit the enemy in large numbers, we can utilize the Unique Items and Legendary Aspects to augment the skill damage of the Bone Spirit playstyle. Bone Spirit does not require Unique Items in the glove slot. Therefore, it is an opportune time to utilize the new Unique Items that offer significant damage. These items may even be used in conjunction with the Ring of Starless Skies for a 96% increase in damage, assuming you obtain the ring first. Start with Barbarian in the early stages and then transition to Necromancer as you acquire better gear.
The other playstyles in Season 3 have remained unchanged from Season 2. I will not list the details here.

Progression Guide

The Necromancer's Progression stage is identical to that of Season Two. Players should prioritize completing the Season Journey to obtain the Spider. As per the designer's description, the Spider will replicate the player's abilities. In the early stages, the Spider's damage output is significant, so players may consider equipping it with damage-type control stones to aid in battle. Once obtained, the primary combat scenario should be Domhainne, located in Scosglen. To clear out the normal monsters, players should utilize Blood Surge's full-screen damage and leave the elite monsters to the Skeletons and Spiders. Unless Arcane Tremors provides many experience, the best choice for upgrading in the early stages is still dungeons.

Another option for fighting in the early stages is Arcane Tremors, in addition to dungeons. Once our season journey reaches a certain stage, an icon for Arcane Tremors will appear on the world map. You must go to the location of these icons to trigger the quest. For a detailed introduction to Arcane Tremors, refer to Gameusd's other campfire chat article. Click the link if necessary.

Upon reaching level 40, the limitations of the Blood Surge gameplay may hinder your ability to clear the church. It may be more suitable to upgrade to difficulty 4 and switch to the Bone Spear to clear the church at a lower level or a difficulty 3 dungeon. Bone Spear deals more damage to elites, and bosses, making the fight much easier.
Next, we should brainstorm strategies for acquiring whispering points. If Arcane Tremors does not award whispering points, we must complete the corresponding quests. Additionally, it is crucial to equip ourselves with gear that provides resistance to fire and dark attributes.
After reaching level 50, Varshan Tickets are required to get Deathspeaker's Pendant and Ring of the Sacrilegious Soul. Following that, complete Arcane Tremors and Elemental Vault to acquire unique items and legendary aspects in preparation for the Nightmare difficulty dungeon.

Conclusion

The only difference between playing as a Necromancer in Season 2 and the current season is the addition of the Bone Spirit system. Necromancer in the new season is a wise choice in progression.
